The mission of Urban Upbound is to provide residents of public housing neighborhoods the tools and resources needed to achieve economic mobility and self-sufficiency, and to break cycles of poverty. Urban Upbound advances its mission through five integrated programs: Employment Services, Financial counseling, Youth Development/College Access, the Urban Upbound Federal Credit Union, and Community Revitalization services. History Established in 2004. Established in 2004.Bishop Mitchell G. Taylor is Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Urban Upbound and has lived in and around Queensbridge Houses for the past forty-three years. In 2004, convinced that a single church would not be able to mitigate the mammoth issues facing public housing residents, Bishop Taylor and Debra-Ellen Glickstein founded Urban Upbound, formerly known as the East River Development Alliance (ERDA). Urban Upbound aims to facilitate inter-generational wealth and foster community revitalization through organizing all the social networks in our communities to provide optimal service delivery. To do this, we bring together resident leaders, community-based organizations, clergy, local businesses and elected officials in our communities. Urban Upbound is the only organization in Queens specifically focused on strengthening public housing neighborhoods and breaking cycles of poverty. To learn more please visit our website.
