After huge success in Chicagoland, The Star Tutor in now serving in Greater Boston area! (please check our Chicago The Star Tutor Yelp page for reference)The Star Tutor provides one-on-one and group tutoring for standardized tests (GMAT, GRE, ACT and SAT.I, Tara B, am the owner and the solo tutor for The Star Tutor. I have been ranked #1 among more than 60,000 worldwide tutors on an online tutoring website for 5 consecutive years. I have an average star rating of 4.98 out of 5, based on 145 client reviews over 5 platforms (please visit my website for links to more reviews from previous students). In the last fourteen years, I have provided both one-on-one and small group lessons to 600+ students. History Established in 2012. I started tutoring casually during college in 2005 when my classmates needed help with mathematics and physics courses. Encouraged by their positive comments, I then started tutoring for standardized tests part time. I decided to specialize in tutoring for the standardized tests because I consider myself a natural test-taker and wish to share all the strategies I applied to my own test-taking. After graduate school, I didn’t only start tutoring more but also developed a strong passion for it. After receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from my students, I discontinued genetics research at The University of Chicago in order to fully dedicate my time to helping students.Tutoring is much more than just work for me — I plan to continue providing services as a tutor/educator and aspire to eventually establish a non-profit organization devoted to helping underprivileged children both in the US and worldwide (I have already offered free services in Nepal and India).
Hello,My name is Tara. I have a Master of Science in Genetics from The University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from Northeastern University. My tutoring experience dates back much further than my 14 professional years; I used to attend a boarding school in which a class of 40 students gathered around me a few days before every major exam. This experience was invaluable and helped me transition into professional tutoring. As a tutor, I believe in the Socratic Method of Teaching and ask students a series of questions, guiding them to the solutions. For many, a huge part of success on standardized tests has to do with timing. I specialize in shortcuts and more intuitive methods of solving problems. For those who do not enjoy math, I make the teaching as fun and interesting as I can. I also provide consultation on the mental/emotional aspect of test-taking to students with fear and anxiety of certain topics.
