Tutorbees is founded by teachers, and we are educators first. This means that we have a deep understanding of learning, pedagogy, assessment, curriculum and instruction. We will put the same care in hiring our tutors, screening for expertise and setting up individual learning goals for our students. Both founders have active California state teaching credentials, and our children attend public schools right here in Orange County. We love some aspects of our kids’ public schooling, but we also know there are gaps in terms of what schools can offer. Sometimes students need a little extra push to really shine in their academic courses, and this is where we come in. We get it. We understand what students need to succeed, and it’s not just an empty promise: We have lived it as teachers, and as parents. History Established in 2015. Dr. Marina started as a high school English teacher and Eli started his career as a high school math teacher; they saw the extraordinary commitment of teachers in public schools, but they also saw their limitations. With multiple periods, and hundreds of students each year, many teachers just don’t have the ability to give one-on-one attention to students who may be struggling. Also, tutoring programs in the area have been quite disappointing: Some charge parents hundreds of dollars for ineffective “programs” that entail generic worksheets and tests, while others employ under-trained college students who lack the depth of knowledge needed to support struggling learners. Eli and Marina founded Tutorbees as a way to fill this gap: Parents need high-quality tutoring for their children from nurturing and knowledgeable professionals.
