We offer FREE, one-to-one tutoring in basic education and GED preparation to adults in Cuyahoga County. Our mission is to provide personalized education that empowers adults to succeed in their communities. With the help of over 200 volunteer tutors, we served 1,200 students last year–making us larger than the average high school. History Established in 1997. Seeds of Literacy (Seeds) began in 1997 as a free and easily accessible adult literacy program. Identifying the need to provide support to adults at all academic levels, Seeds developed a one-to-one tutoring model and created an individualized curriculum to accommodate all students. In 2005, Seeds received, and currently holds, national accreditation from ProLiteracy, the largest adult literacy organization in the world. Seeds is the only adult literacy program in Cuyahoga County with this accreditation, and one of only two in the state of Ohio. We believe that strong literacy skills enable a person to move out of poverty; 95% of Seeds students live at or below federal poverty guidelines. The mission of Seeds is to provide personal education that empowers adults to succeed in their communities. We achieve this mission by providing free one-to-one tutoring, basic education and GED preparation, GED testing, and educational counseling at one location. Meet the Manager Bonnie E.
