*Mathematics and Sciences*Writing and Humanities*Test Preparation (SAT,ACT, SHSAT, ISEE, GRE, LSAT, GMAT, etc.)*Academic support to raise grades*An elite edge in test preparation and academic work*Deep and thorough coverage when a teacher or school falls shortMy teaching is based on building true understanding. The gains my students make are permanent. I cultivate not only mastery of the subject, but joy in it, intellectual confidence, and pride in good craftsmanship that together form part of a general foundation for life. To achieve these goals I use every tool at my disposal — empathy, experience, striking metaphors and images, humor, well-chosen examples, a fine-tuned sense of pace, and much else. I deal with my students as whole people and seek the approach that best fits them as human beings. My clients must feel totally supported–for example, I normally allow students to call for free help on a homework problem. In test-preparation work, the goal is high scores. Though I know and teach all the tricks, the best way to achieve high scores is to raise the student’s real strength — if this were not so, institutions such as Harvard College or the Trinity School would not give standardized tests the weight that they do. For example, the best way to get a better reading score is to learn the art of reading well. I use techniques that I first encountered as a Harvard undergraduate in Harvard’s study skills course for its own students.
