We offer academic evaluations, one-on-one tutoring in all subjects (grades K-12), individual test prep for high school and college entrance exams (HSPT, PSAT, SAT, ACT), and support for students taking online classes. History Established in 1985. Morris Tutoring began as a one-woman operation in 1985. By 1991, the demand for quality tutoring (and Susan’s limited ability to help with several high school subjects!) led to incorporation and the hiring of capable associates in order to offer a wider range of subjects and more flexibility in scheduling. Susan taught special education for ten years prior to starting this service. She has a Masters degree in special education, with expertise and experience in learning disabilities and multiple pathways for learning. She now directs MTA, supervises and supports the tutoring staff, performs academic evaluations, tutors students, and consults with parents and teachers.
I was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I have been a huge fan of children since babysitting as a teenager. I majored in music for my undergrad degree (Whitworth College, Spokane WA), working in park & recreation kids' programs during the summers. After a few years of working in a library and music store, I was drawn into teaching when I moved to Phoenix and got a job teacher's aid in a special ed classroom. I was hooked. . . I took 12 hours of special education classes at ASU over the summer and got my first teaching job that fall. I continued taking classes while I taught, earning my masters in special ed in 1983. After 10 years in the public schools, I took a break to have kids, but missed teaching so much that I started this service in the fall of 1985. I started solo, but began hiring in 1991, became incorporated as Morris Tutoring Associates, Inc. I love what we do at MTA. I'm still a huge fan of kids and always will be.
